This summer season is all about the Logo Tee! We're crazy about colours and fun designs. Our t-shirt print and graphic designer, Corné, gives us some insight into what goes into the making of the Capestorm Logo Tee's. She runs us through her process of developing the various designs for the season.
Where do you get your inspiration for the season’s designs from?
My inspiration comes from mood boards, social trends, local wildlife photography and personal experiences as a local exploring in nature.
What’s your favourite printed tee?
My favourite Tee is the Men's Lined Rhino Tee on Dusk Shirt. We wanted to make a tee that was not only focussed on the Rhino, but also the landscape around it. I enjoy the simplicity of the shirt and it’s scetch like design.
THE DESIGN PROCESS
STEP 1: BRIEF/ BRAINSTORMING
This is always an exciting time for the team as we are presented with mood boards and ideas for what the range is going to be, as well as the chosen t-shirt colours for the season.
STEP 2: RESEARCH
I look at different print techniques and colour combinations that are on-trend, as well as collect inspirational imagery for each t-shirt theme (lion, rhino, tent, tools etc).
STEP 3: 'SCAMPING'
Once I have done all my research, I draw a variety of pictures for each t-shirt theme. Then we choose from the finished drawings what will be developed further into a designed print.
STEP 4: DESIGN (DIGITAL)
I scan in my drawings and use a combination of Photoshop & Illustrator to develop the artwork into the desired look, feel and colours.
STEP 5: REVIEW & SEND OFF
The Capestorm design team look at the finished prints on the t-shirt colour and we decide on sizing as well as printing technique for each print or shirt.
There is then an overall review done and the final call is made on what will be bought, tossed, or reworked. From here the printing process begins.
