Career Synopsis
Marijus started climbing in high school using a book published in the 50s as a guide to make his own climbing gear, and he was hooked instantly. Narrowly escaping death a few times, he soon made friends with more experienced climbers and started to acquire proper equipment. Over the years his focus shifted from traditional climbing, to sport climbing and now to bouldering. Although he still does climb the occasional big-wall, Marijus prefers the physical challenges that bouldering presents and tries to push the limits of the sport in South Africa.
Achievements
Marijus has been climbing for nearly 8 years and is currently one of the top climbers in South Africa. He has been ranked 1st in South Africa for the past 5 years on 8a.nu (an international climbing ranking site) and has won numerous national and provincial climbing competitions. Recently, he has focused more on bouldering, which is a more pure and gymnastic style of climbing where the focus is on power and technique and he has just become the second South African ever to climb the 8B grade. Marijus was also the national bouldering champion in 2007 and has represented South Africa in several international climbing competitions including the X-Games and the Bouldering World Cup. Marijus is responsible for more hard bouldering first ascents than any other South African and has played a large role in developing the sport in our country by developing new climbing areas and being solely responsible for the Western Province section of the National Bouldering League

Recommended Capestorm Kit
Although it's hard to choose only one item, the pack down jacket is definately a favourite for the cold winter bouldering trips to Rocklands in the Northern Cederberg. It is lightweight enough to carry everywhere, yet warm enough for the worst conditions you'll encounter in the South African wilderness.
