Career Synopsis

I breed and train horses and compete in Endurance Riding. The sport of Endurance Riding involves long-distance horse racing. This takes place over sometimes gruelling terrain under strictly controlled conditions for the horses and riders. Pure and part-bred Arabian horses have been found to be the most popular breed for this demanding sport having proven their stamina and athletic abilities. Rides vary in distance from 30km to 160km in one day.

Achievements

I have been chosen as part of the National Team to compete at the World Endurance Championships in Malaysia during November 2008. This will be the first time in more than a decade that the South African riders will be able to compete on their own horses because of the prevalence of African Horse Sickness in our country and the resulting strict quarantine measures. My horse, Traka Crypton, has just completed 3 weeks of compulsory pre-quarantine at Kenilworth racecourse and has gone into full quarantine today! (18/7) The horses are scheduled to fly out on 2 September and will then continue their training in Germany for 5 weeks. Then off to Malaysia to acclimatise for the tropic conditions.

Recommended Capestorm Kit

AVIATOR VEST. Reason: Extremely comfortable and suited for endurance riding, because it has complete freedom of movement but with built in support. It works well in layering with other clothes, because we often have huge variations in temperature and humidity on a ride. Back pockets are great for carrying necessities.
