WCAD Series 2012
As the end of 2011 draws nearer, its time to get excited for the bigger and better 2012 WCAD Series.
2012 Race Distances:
Thank you to all who took the time to give us feedback on what race distance format you would prefer. We have listened to the competitors and as a result we will be offering short (50-60km) and long (100-120km) options at ALL of our 2012 one-day races. We hope to see the main competition happening in the long course with the short course appealing more to the social, novice and scholar racers.
2012 Dates and "Quantum Leap AR":
There have been a couple changes made to the initial 2012 race dates that were released. With the exciting advent of the 250km Quantum Leap AR taking place in late August, WCAD will no longer be hosting a multi-day race. We have, however, added an additional one-day race to the calendar in its place. We would like to see as many WCAD racers as possible lining up at the start of the Quantum Leap and would strongly advise all to use the WCAD races to build in confidence leading up to the big race.
Final 2012 race dates are as follows:
WCAD 1: 4 Feb
WCAD 2: 21 April
WCAD 3: 9 June
WCAD 4: 28 July
WCAD 5: 10 November
2012 Team Format:
All 2012 races will be open to teams of two. Again, we would like to see the business end of things happening in the 'mixed pairs' category but male and female pairs are also welcome. We have had a couple requests for 'solo entries'. In response, we are unlikely to ever offer a 'solo' category. Adventure racing does not follow a set route/path and it is difficult to know exactly where all the competitors are a lot of the time. Solo racing is simply too dangerous (especially as there is always a chance that an accident could occur) and carries a risk factor that we are not willing to accept.
2012 Series Log:
We will be keeping and publishing an ongoing series log for the 2012 season. To contend for the overall series win you will need to complete at least 3 of the 5 races with the same partner as it is a team competition. If you complete more than 3 then your top 3 finishes will count. More info and details of prizes for this competition to follow in the new year but be sure to chose you partners carefully;) Teams that compete in all 5 events in 2012 will be given a 50% discount to the 5th race.

Planning is already well underway for the first event of 2012 and if you are not aware then visit www.wcad.co.za for more information about the first race which takes place in the beautiful Franshoek mountains on 4 February.
