Another fine day was had spent out in the country, runners seen loping through the magnificent mountains which surround the quaint and trendy little village Greyton.
The 12km run which had a route change this year ended up as 13km, which was not a walk in the park with some serious hills to tackle, but the views made it all worthwhile.
Quick off the mark on the 32km was Derrick Baard, keen for a 2nd time win. But the pressure was on with Noel Ernstzen hot on Derrick's heels followed closely by Bernard Griesel and Neil Quayle. The top 4 winners in 2010 was Derrick, Neil, and Noel.
The routes start in the village and veers off into the mountains surrounding the village for a warm up leg, winding through fynbos covered slopes. Two river crossings later, the 32km pack are lead onto the first ascent of lung busting climbing of 5 km's of steep uphill on a track of loose pebbles. The trail follows a river gorge that unveils spectacular views over an echo of valley and the The Oaks waterfall 18m drop.
A zig zag descent follows and way in the distance, the trail snakes it's way past several waterfalls and final peak, at the 18k mark which is the turn-around point.
The heat started settling in around mid morning, leaving the 32km runners on route to McGregor having a tough time beating off the heat and looking forward to the half way mark where they could quench their thirst on cold coke and scoff some munchies.
Great vibe and great runners - well done to all.
