After two years of planning, Luke Bush and Marian Penso are 33 days into the great cycle expedition of The Tour Divide, a self-supported 4418-kilometre mountain bike 'race' along the Continental Divide.
Our goal is to race from Banff in Canada to Antelope-Wells on the American-Mexican border, following and crossing the Rocky Mountain Range by self-navigating the designated, yet unmarked, route. The route is 90% off road on forestry road, fire tracks and single track. It traverses diverse terrain and extremes in weather conditions.
There is no support along the way, and as the route follows remote wilderness areas we will be tenting along the way. At times there will be 3-day stretches without towns for replenishing food supplies and water. All equipment has to be carried on the bikes and a tracking device will enable you at home to SPOT us.
The Race starts on 10th June 2011 in Banff Canada and we plan on being on our bikes for 12-15 hours a day, averaging 120-150km, to complete the race in 30-35 days!
