In January 2009, Mandy Ramsden set off for Antarctica with a group of South Africans and two gents from Azerbaijan, expecting to suffer her way through a bleak and bitterly cold expedition to Vinson Massif, its highest point. Instead, she found a continent of exquisite beauty with a fascinating history. From the uncertainty of the weather-dependent logistics to the thrill of the summit, the three-week journey was a great deal more colourful than ever imagined.
Mandy is a mother of four and an investment banker from Johannesburg. Her mountaineering journey was born of a desire to see the world after years of lunch boxes and lift clubs and began in 2006 with Kilimanjaro. Vinson Massif was her sixth of the Seven Summits.
